BlueScope is a provider of innovative steel materials, products, systems, and technologies, headquartered in Melbourne, Australia with operations spread across North America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands and throughout Asia.

They are one of the world’s leading manufacturers of painted and coated steel products. With a strong expertise in steel, they provide vital components for industries such as housing, industrial building, structures, automotive and more. They have a diverse portfolio of businesses in some of the largest and fastest growing economies of the world.

With their global footprint across 150 facilities and operations, tracking inventory and managing their warehouse infrastructure is a key part to fulfilling on their business obligations and keeping pace with their growth. BlueScope were facing several challenges within their warehousing operations. Specifically, they were working with various systems and platforms which was not conducive to efficiently managing their warehouses. On top of this many of their processes were manual and required unnecessary printing of documents and forms which had to be filled out by hand which were inherently susceptible to errors. BlueScope thus wanted to eliminate these tedious tasks. BlueScope wanted to modernize their WMS, automate processes, and consolidate all operations under one platform environment, Salesforce.

WAM IMPLEMENTATION

BlueScope isolated Akatia Technologies WMS application for Salesforce, WAM, as the solution of choice. First and foremost was WAM’s fit with their goal of consolidating their systems under their Salesforce environment and ability to deliver robust out of the box features as well as the potential for bespoke configurations. This was important for BlueScope as their budgets were strictly controlled and development by their own internal team of Salesforce developers was going to be a core part of any implementation. Furthermore, barcode scanning was a must requirement and again WAM stood out as it was built with this type of feature functionality in mind and had a ready configurable mobile application component. With warehousing operations now under one environment BlueScope were also able to give their key stakeholders and employees complete visibility on inventory levels, shipments, and other key data. As well by automating processes they were able to move to a paperless operation and have emails automatically sent as part of the fulfilment process while also putting in key approval processes to counter cost overages that could have negative budget impacts. Finally having the scanner application implemented allowed workers to operate in a completely mobile capacity, managing inventory on the go as the mobile scanner application interacts live with their Salesforce environment live.

In all BlueScope were with the help of WAM able to put in place a modern and reliable solution that met their core needs, solved their challenges, and consolidated the inventory operations under one robust and scalable environment. All the while giving the flexibility to make configuration changes and developments as future needs arise and scale with their growth.
